My Great Uncle David

I am so grateful that I got to visit with Great Uncle David this past summer. Thank you so much, David and Judy, for making the trip to Long Sault with him. Although older and somewhat slower than when we last visited, Uncle David's loveable spirit and wonderful sense of humour sure shone through that day. I am so very thankful for that, as it was our new son Emmett's first and only time with him. There aren't words to express how special it was to witness the playful exchange and laughter between Emmett and his Great Great Uncle David - separated by nearly 87 years in age, but united by kindred spirits! There were some bittersweet moments during our visit, too, as Uncle David fondly remembered his late sister, my paternal grandmother, Violet. He told me how, like all of us, he missed her so terribly. I have no doubt that they are enjoying a pretty fantastic 'Happy Hour' together this evening... Perhaps listening to some good ol' traditional bagpipe tunes and hopefully toasting his beautiful life and how he touched all of ours so meaningfully. I treasure all of my childhood memories of family time spent with Great Uncle David and Great Aunt Pearl in Long Sault. They never failed to travel each year from Toronto to Long Sault to spend time with Grandma Vi, Grandpa Ken, and our extended family. As a little girl, I always looked forward to hearing Uncle David's jokes, listening to stories of the Proctor family's epic journey across the Atlantic from Aberdeen, and simply drinking in the beautiful lilt of Great Uncle David' and Auntie "Puddle's" lovely Scottish accents! I wish we could have held on to Uncle David just a little longer, but I'm comforted to know that I'll enjoy his stories and laugh at his jokes when we meet again. Until then, Uncle David, I'll raise my glass (scotch, of course!) to you, one of the kindest, dearest souls I've known. Love you! xo
